Xiaomi has taken everyone by surprise with its latest
announcement revealing its new partners – Snapdeal and Amazon. The company has
been in an exclusive tie-up with Flipkart ever since it entered the Indian
market last year. The new announcement comes via Mi India’s social media pages
and also from Hugo Barra, who is the face of the company here.
Interestingly, Xiaomi has been expanding its retail channels for some time now. Though popular at wooing audiences with its flash sales, the company had recently tried selling devices via brick and mortar stores. It had teamed up with Airtel stores to sell the Redmi Note, and new reports also reveal that it has partnered with ‘The Mobile store’ to sell select devices in India.
In line with the reports about Xiaomi’s own e-commerce store, the Chinese handset maker has also started selling accessories on its Mi India store.
So far, the company had been selling its devices only via its exclusive India partner, Flipkart. With the recent moves, it clearly shows that as Xiaomi plans to expand its lineup in India, it is also looking to partner with different distribution channels.
This doesn’t mean, it has ditched Flipkart for others. In fact, in a bid to expand its reach, the company will be selling devices via country’s all three leading e-commerce sites. However, the company managed to create the hype via its flash sales, and it isn’t sure whether it will continue to do so on other sites too. We are all familiar with Xiaomi Tuesdays on Flipkart, and son’t be surprised if the company probably announces a Xioami Wednesday or Thursday.
As a part of the announcement, the Mi India Facebook page also writes, “To celebrate our 5th birthday, we are having a one-day only discount of Rs 2000 for all …our Mi 4 models (16GB @ Rs 17,999 and 64GB @ Rs. 21,999), to thank you for your support. This offer is valid from 12 noon to 12 midnight on 8 April only.“
