Android KitKat continues its growth, now runs on nearly 18 percent of Android devices

Google’s Android KitKat adoption continues to grow and after touching double digits last month. From 13.6 percent in June, Android KitKat now runs on nearly 18 percent of devices. Android Jelly Bean, on the other hand, continues its slide and now runs on nearly 56.5 percent of devices.
KitKat’s rise can be attributed to the host of affordable smartphones being launched in countries like India that run on the latest operating system. Since the launch of the affordable Motorola Moto E, a host of local players like Karbonn, Celkon, Spice and Lava have launched Android KitKat smartphones priced under Rs 10,000.
In the face of KitKat’s rise, other OS versions continue to decline. While Jelly Bean continues to lead, it now powers around 56.5 percent of Android devices, which is down from 58 percent last month. Ice Cream Sandwich and Gingerbread too are down to 11.4 percent and 13.5 percent respectively.
