Flipkart's black Friday like 'Big Billion Day' sale is
nearing its closure with most deals being sold out already. In fact, it's being
said that the most lucrative deals were wiped clean within the first 5 minutes
after the sale began. The sale offered exorbitant discounts and certain ads
even claimed products available at Re. 1. While a lot of people walked
away with what they desired, majority of people found themselves pretty much
lost in the melee. Yes, if rightly termed, the sale was a melee. The mega bargain
was smothered with problems like insufficient stock, repeated site crashes and
never ending 404 and 502 page not found errors.
Why Wasn't Flipkart Prepared?
If you take a look at the #flopkart or even #
bigbillionday,
the consumers have lashed out at Flipkart for being extremely callous with such
a big sale. While the sale was supposed to have a 24 hour run, 90 per cent of
the products were sold out within the first 7 hours only. The most awaited
deals which were widely advertised on print and television alike, cleared off
within less than 5 minutes leaving the consumers high and dry! To make it even
worse, some products that were advertised did not even make it to the sale.
What followed this was the annoying site crash and 'page not found error' which
could have been easily avoided by Flipkart. That's because Flipkart is not new
to flash sales and it has crashed a number of times in the past as well. When
they have had similar issues in the past, why didn't they put more into making
their servers steady for the Billion Day Sale?
Amazon And Snapdeal Benefited Largely As Well
Thanks to the pathetic functioning of Flipkart,
Amazon and
Snapdeal raked in massive sales number without even having to advertise their
respective sales. Flipkart was so much riddled with problems that buyers
actually diverted to compare prices and ended up sticking to these sites. And
in no time #checksnapdealtoday picked up pace on Twitter diverting a lot of
traffic away from Flipkart. Also, a lot of people found better deals on SnapDeal
and Amazon and even tweeted "#bigbillionday its not too late yet @flipkart
! to save all the dignity & respect you had earned, just start giving away
some real steals :)", tweeted a shopper. Moreover, while Snapdeal
witnessed a sale of over a crore rupees in less than a minute, Amazon bought
the bigbillionday.com domain redirecting the ones who typed this to Amazon.in.
