Lava International, owners of the Xolo sub-brand will
invest Rs 100 crore over the next 18 months to develop its Hive OS. The ‘OS’ is more a
customisation of Android, for its Xolo line of smartphones.
In a statement to the Economic Times, Vishal Sehgal, co-founder and director of Lava International
said, “We have so far investment Rs 100 crore and will invest Rs 100 crore
towards the development of our Hive OS and the software ecosystem with a focus
on improved customer experience.”
On Friday, Lava launched the first
smartphone under its online sub brand ‘Black’ called the Xolo Black. The
device is priced at Rs 12,999 and will go on sale on Flipkart on Monday,
July 13. However, existing Xolo customers can get the smartphone a day early
between 4PM on Sunday, but will need to register. Earlier, Xolo
also launched its new sub-Rs 5,000 smartphone dubbed Era at Rs 4,444. The
new Xolo smartphone is available exclusively on Snapdeal, and the
registrations began on July 9.
