Apple is believed to be working on a new iPhone app that will
work with the Watch. Now, some more details
have surfaced about this new “Companion” app.
According to 9To5Mac, it is known
as the Apple Watch “Companion” app for iPhone within the Apple team.
It manages settings for Apple Watch applications and iPhone/Watch
interactivity. The leaked screenshots of the Companion app’s settings also show
some new functions that we will see in the Apple Watch.
Firstly, the app
will allow users to manage and organise applications on the Apple Watch
home screen using a virtual view on the iPhone Companion application.
The leaked screenshots also show a new clock face feature called Monogram.
“Like a real monogram, this feature will allow users to include a virtual,
embedded stamp of 1-4 letters – typically your initials – directly
on the clock face. This is an interesting customisation, giving you
the chance to make your watch look more individually designed,” adds
the report.
The Apple Watch will let
users respond to messages via voice. They can enable or disable read receipts,
just like we see in other Apple products. Users can also set up and manage
default text replies and choose to not receive text message alerts or
just to receive them from select people.
While using Maps, it
will let users enable or disable Taptic Engine tapping of the user’s wrist
for turn-by-turn directions. The report further points out that Apple
Watch will come with a series of key accessibility features. To
access Accessibility Settings on the fly, users need to triple-click
the Digital Crown. The Watch also has a VoiceOver feature that can
speak out the text displayed on the screen. The Watch also follows gestures
such as: double tap with two fingers to zoom, two fingers to pan around, and
more.
Just like the iPhone,
users can set a four number pass-code for the Watch. To use Apple Pay, one will
require the pass-code system. However, it will let you make payments only if
the pass-code is entered after putting the watch on the wrist.
Users can unlock the
Apple Watch by unlocking the connected iPhone. This feature will work if the
Apple Watch is attached to your body. The report further reveals that the
Companion app will let you activate granular fitness features. Users can also
activate/deactivate heart rate tracking to automatically calculate calories
burned.
With the Companion app,
Apple has included an About Screen that will show all essential information
like storage capacity, the number of songs, photos or apps saved, Wi-Fi and
Bluetooth details and so on.
