Facebook launches a donate-to-charities button in fight against Ebola

Facebook is stepping up its efforts to fight Ebola by adding a button designed to make it easier for its users to donate to charities battling the disease.
The social media company is also deploying 100 satellite communication terminals to boost Internet and phone services to affected areas in West Africa.
The programs come on the heels of a $25 million donation last month by CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention toward the Ebola response. Facebook says that, over the coming week, its users will see an option to donate to three nonprofits fighting Ebola.
The company is also sending WiFi terminals to provide Internet and voice-calling access to remote areas of Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
This is a good initiative by Facebook amidst reports of some people using Ebola to fulfill their selfish needs. Earlier, Symantec had reported that the Ebola virus was being used as bait to spread malware. This was one of the recent evolution of attacks which included infecting PCs with phishing emails that talk about the latest headlines.
As with most phishing emails, the message body warns the user of a trending problem and unsuspecting users could open the email, click on the links or even share them with others. If PCs are not adequately protected, they can become victims to harmful malware.
