Microsoft finally introduces Skype group chats to Office Online in latest update

Microsoft has finally added Skype group chats to Office Online in their latest update. The company announced this news back in November itself but has now implemented it. As of now, this feature is available for Microsoft Word documents and PowerPoint presentations. It has not been rolled out to OneNote and Excel Online.
The new group chat will allow users to have Skype chats while editing in Office Online by simply clicking on the chat button in the upper right corner. Users can chat with everyone working in the document, thus making it easy to communicate with colleagues.
Microsoft says, “Users will be able to continue any chats started in Office Online on Skype on the desktop or their smartphone after the file is closed.”
With the addition of this new feature, Microsoft intends to make its services into cross-platform tools. Additional information is about Microsoft’s new Skype group chats is available on the official blog post.
Earlier, reports suggested that Microsoft had released a test version of Skype which let people make internet calls from web browsers, eliminating the need to install special applications. Skype for Web will be available to a small number of existing users at first and will be rolled out globally in the coming months, according to Microsoft.
