Xiaomi crosses one million milestone of smartphone sales in India

Amidst the lull of a partial ban on its devices, Xiaomi has announced its smartphone sales have crossed the one million milestone in India.
While the company is always in news for quickly selling its smartphones in flash sales, it never gave out the actual number of handsets it sold here. But on Christmas Day, Xiaomi’s India head, Manu Kumar Jain tweeted that it had sold one million smartphones. To celebrate the occasion, the company also announced it is giving away three Redmi Note 4G handsets via a Facebook contest.

The four-year old phone maker hit Indian shores only five months ago and has emerged as one of the fastest-growing smartphone vendors in the country. It launched its first device, Mi 3 in July this year, followed by the budget Redmi 1s and the Redmi Note smartphones. All its smartphones follow the same unique retail and marketing style, where they sell exclusively on an online retail store and spread the word via social media.
Xiaomi is currently in a legal soup as Ericsson has filed a lawsuit against the company for infringing on its patents. The Delhi High Court then put a ban on all Xiaomi devices in India, but later lifted the ban on devices that use Qualcomm chipsets until January 8.
